The Nekromantix

Posted by Anita On September - 21 - 2010

By Anita Fixx
This was my first time ever interviewing on the phone so this is how it goes. I call and ask:
“Uh hi is this Kim?” Voice on other side says “Yeah it’s Kim.How are you?” “Oh good…it’s Anita from Absolute Underground. So how are you doing?” “Good I’m just a bit stressed out because I’ve been in the studio with my other band The Horrorpops and then I’m touring.” So we launch into a discussion about the two bands. Which leads to something I want to ask, “How come The Horrorpops have
come up to Canada a few times but not the Nekromantix?”
He says “We wanted to come but it hasn’t been able to happen yet. It’s difficult to juggle the two bands. It takes a lot of time” Does it have anything to do with border trouble?
“No it’s not really a problem. The thing is some bands don’t want to do all the paper work and pay for the merch to get up there so then there’s trouble.”

AF: So onto B-movies what do you like about them and what are your favorites?
Nekro: I like the silent movies that had no words; they just show everything with images. Nosferatu is my ultimate favorite, it’s just fucking gothic and I like Evil Dead. It’s a classic.

For years I’ve been a big fan of Poison Candy Fashions!   I was lucky enough to get a few moments of Rebecca’s time to pick her brain about the line!

69Demented the sequel to Demented are go

Posted by Dee-Ann On September - 20 - 2010

I entered the shop of Tattoo West in Rotterdam, where I’m supposed to meet Spark. With this interview I arranged a photo shoot for them with my brother who is a photographer. The owner of Tattoo West and guitarplayer of 69Beavershot, Robert is standing in the doorway, telling us that Spark came by four times that day. He was anxious for the photoshoot.

A few days before I was reading some interviews about Demented are Go. Being arrested, being denied entry to the US, being charged… People wishing me good luck with the interview and praying Oh God, for me. Hehe. This could be interesting.

Posted by Dee-Ann On September - 17 - 2010

Last week I tricked you into the Zombie. If you’re still stuck with it… The Classic Bloody Mary might be your life aid!

Queen Bloody Mary

Some say the name “Bloody Mary” is associated Queen Mary I of England. Others refer to a waitress named Mary who worked at a Chicago bar called the Bucket of Blood. The name likely refers to the blood-like color of the cocktail.

Repo The Genetic Opera Review

Posted by Anita On September - 13 - 2010

Repo! The Genetic Opera
Ever wanted to see an opera set in the not too distant future about a man who’s job description is to repossess people’s organ transplants when they’re missed a payment? Of course you have! And here’s your
chance! It’s produced and directed by the people who brought you three of the “Saw” movies. Honestly I’m not a fan at all of those movies; in fact I hate them but Repo! Did look different so I gave it a chance. I’m glad I did.

It’s funny because the director was in attendance and someone asked him if he preferred the Saw franchise or Repo, he replied without thinking it over “Repo!”. The sad fact is if you want to make a living as a filmmaker you have to make the more commercial shit unless you want to spend your daytime hours saying,
“do you want fries with that?” So leave your judgments and expectations at the door this is not like anything you’ve seen or heard. It is refreshing to see something so original up on the big screen considering all the re-makes and sequels clogging the multiplex. So not surprisingly this is a very limited release, if it’s showing at a theatre near you go see it now!

Repo! Is set in a future where a large corporation named Geneco has made a profit out of human illness and suffering kind of like our present! Failure to make payments results in repossession of your organ transplants and the Repo men are not exactly known for their gentle treatment of debt-ridden clients.

Zombie it! Quick and Easy Halloween make-up

Posted by Jodie On September - 12 - 2010

I know it’s early September, but Halloween is just around the corner. The candy is already out! And for a Halloween freak like myself, September is all about the prep.

It’s a great time to hit vintage stores for ideas and items to make a kick-ass costume from scratch. Because let’s face it, the coolest ones are always home-made. And look like you’ve put a lot of effort into them.

Kurvy Kerosene Deluxe!

Posted by Bunny On September - 11 - 2010

Buxom Kerosene Deluxe is enough to set fire to the toughest greasers heart. Equal parts Lily Munster and Bettie Page but with a build that puts both to shame. Get ready to meet your new dream, scream, queen!

So tell us about yourself and your background.
Well, I was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I come from a Thai, Japanese and Dutch family. I started modelling in 2001 and specialized mainly in Hammer Horror themed photo shoots but as I got older and more comfortable with myself and my sexuality I started to pursue more of the old Hollywood Glamour and Pin Up styles. I’ve been in love with Film Noir and Vaudeville ever since I can remember so this was sort of my way to pay homage to the beautiful silver screen starlet’s. At the time there were not many alterative models with fuller figures yet so it was important for me to make a statement and to inspire other woman to feel confident and sexy, at any shape or size.

After living in London, UK for 3 1/2 years (where I worked as a model, make up artist and DJ) I moved to Canada in 2008.

Besides modelling I am also a size positive activist and coach/mentor to upcoming models.

Cocktail time: Zombie

Posted by Dee-Ann On September - 10 - 2010

We all need to eat, we all want to drink. Ofcourse we all prefer to grab a beer and fill us up untill we wake up, never knowing when we fell asleep.

If you have a special occasion to get drunk and wasted, here’s the drink for you: Zombie! There a many recipes for this cocktail, but they have one thing in common: you’ll feel like a Zombie afterwards. The Zombie is a cocktail made of fruit juices, liqueurs, and various rums, so named for its perceived effects upon the drinker. It first appeared in the late 1930s, invented by Donn Beach (formerly Ernest Raymond Beaumont-Gannt) of Hollywood’s Don the Beachcomber restaurant.

The 1939 World’s Fair was it’s debut and it is still perfect to enjoy for a relaxing happy hour, tropical summer drink or a haunting Halloween party cocktail.

Punk Blues Review: Death or Glory

Posted by Bunny On September - 7 - 2010

Rock ‘n’ roll vixen turned pin-up model Jamie Bahr heads up a punkabilly outfit that can only be described as the Ramones meet Howlin’ Wolf. Steamy, sexy versions of classic like “I put a spell on you” and “Lil’ Red Ridin’ hood” will make you melt on the insides and tingle on the outsides. Backed by thundering guitar and thumping bass, this is one that will make you want to swing dance or mosh.

Death or Glory

I was amazed to learn that most of this group is actually from New York. Jamie sounds like the love child of Wanda Jackson and Lux Interior. The backing band has a really raw, swamp blues feel similar to the stuff “Jay” Miller produced only much, MUCH faster. Not bad for a bunch of Yankees really.

Tales from the Grave!

Posted by Bunny On September - 7 - 2010

BELA LUGOSI LIVES!!  The iconic horror star is getting the four color treatment via “Tales from the Grave!”  We sat down with one of the crazed minds behind the return of “the Count!”

First off, tell us who you are?

I’m Kerry Gammill. I drew comic books for Marvel and DC during the
’80s and ’90s. Since then I’ve worked in movies and advertising doing
conceptual art and storyboards. I’ve always loved horror comics and
the classic horror movies of the ’30s and ’40s with stars like Bela
Lugosi, Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney, Jr. I decided to combine those
passions by getting back into comics with a new publishing company,
Monsterverse Entertainment.

The Reaping!

Posted by drew On September - 4 - 2010

The Reaping comes to us from Dark Castle films, which in the past has made a few entertaining remakes of classic William Castle movies.  Sad to say, but they’ve never fared well with original films.  And this trend continues with a bore of a religious thriller entitled the Reaping.

The movie follows Hillary Swank as a debunker of religious “miracles”. After one of her lectures, she is approached by a man who comes from a bayou town. It seems this town is suffering through the Ten Plagues of Egypt. While this set-up is promising, nothing much is done with it.
