Jamie Bahr on Danger*Cakes Year Two!

Posted by Bunny On November - 18 - 2011

On Halloween of 2010, a new band emerged on the Austin scene.  Fusing elements of  psychobilly, doo-wop, big band swing, and classic soul the band quickly became a fixture in the Austin rockabilly scene.  The all-female group ended their  first year with a bang, joining the likes of Mad Sin and Devil Doll at the 2nd annual Freakshow Festival.   Now, with October behind us, I thought I’d play some catch with Danger*Cake’s buxom frontwoman Jamie Bahr.

Freakshow Festival:2011 Review!

Posted by Bunny On October - 19 - 2011
Hitting the right notes on a second year festival is tough.  With “Freakshow”  the first year was an extremely tough act to follow.  With both huge names on the bill and a large set-up that seemed to engulf down town Austin.  The somewhat more subdued “Freakshow” of year two, seemed to be setting itsself up for a fall.  And  when,I rolled into the make-shift fair grounds it seemed my fears were going to be confirmed.

Psychobilly Comics and More

Posted by Bunny On February - 10 - 2011

I first met the dashing Mr. Edwards years back at Wizard World Dallas. The well-dressed, well spoken, word smith stood out in a room full of virginal nerds. We recently caught up with his famous gal pal Jamie Bahr, making me think that it might be time to sit down with the “godfather of horrorpunk comics”

First off, tell us about yourself and your history?

A new day for the silver age!

Posted by Bunny On February - 1 - 2011

With his Coop meets Kirby style, Sergio Calvet’s work bridges the gap between low-brow art and comics culture. Distinct lines invoke a bygone era without ever losing sight of the far future. Let’s get to know him a little better, shall we?

First off, for the non-comic fans out there, tell us a little bit about yourself?

A Corpse Vanishes” is a monster mashing surf rock smash! Their sound will have you tapping your feet and screaming with terror at the same time! A Evening of Punk Blues at Ruta Maya

Posted by Bunny On November - 18 - 2010

I rolled up just in time to see “Treachery of Others” crank into an hour a half set of country rock.  Although many of their songs touched on the Austin music scene, I had never seen them before.  Their sound could be described as a mix of old school country and the space rock of the hippie jam bands.  Imagine if Phish produced an butt ugly kid with the Old 97’s and you’d have it about right.  Not really my thing, but their high level of energy infected me.  So soon I was rocking back and forth like a lost flower child drunk on Hank Williams Sr.

After their set, Rockabilly Online’s very own Drew Edwards waltzed up on the stage.  Apparently the MC of the show, Edwards cut a handsome figure in a black western shirt and matching cowboy boots.  Always quick witted  he had the crowd cracking up at his jokes pretty quickly. Then he introduced the next band “Something Called Nothing.”

Kurvy Kerosene Deluxe!

Posted by Bunny On September - 11 - 2010

Buxom Kerosene Deluxe is enough to set fire to the toughest greasers heart. Equal parts Lily Munster and Bettie Page but with a build that puts both to shame. Get ready to meet your new dream, scream, queen!

So tell us about yourself and your background.
Well, I was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I come from a Thai, Japanese and Dutch family. I started modelling in 2001 and specialized mainly in Hammer Horror themed photo shoots but as I got older and more comfortable with myself and my sexuality I started to pursue more of the old Hollywood Glamour and Pin Up styles. I’ve been in love with Film Noir and Vaudeville ever since I can remember so this was sort of my way to pay homage to the beautiful silver screen starlet’s. At the time there were not many alterative models with fuller figures yet so it was important for me to make a statement and to inspire other woman to feel confident and sexy, at any shape or size.

After living in London, UK for 3 1/2 years (where I worked as a model, make up artist and DJ) I moved to Canada in 2008.

Besides modelling I am also a size positive activist and coach/mentor to upcoming models.

Demonica de Morte!

Like Jamie Bahr and Kerosene Deluxe, Demonica de Morte is part of a new breed of plus sized pin-up. Based out of the great white north, we sat down for a chat with her. In doing so we talked about music, her career, and of course…deep cleavage.

1) First off, tell us a little about how you got into pin-up modeling?

Punk Blues Review: Death or Glory

Posted by Bunny On September - 7 - 2010

Rock ‘n’ roll vixen turned pin-up model Jamie Bahr heads up a punkabilly outfit that can only be described as the Ramones meet Howlin’ Wolf. Steamy, sexy versions of classic like “I put a spell on you” and “Lil’ Red Ridin’ hood” will make you melt on the insides and tingle on the outsides. Backed by thundering guitar and thumping bass, this is one that will make you want to swing dance or mosh.

Death or Glory

I was amazed to learn that most of this group is actually from New York. Jamie sounds like the love child of Wanda Jackson and Lux Interior. The backing band has a really raw, swamp blues feel similar to the stuff “Jay” Miller produced only much, MUCH faster. Not bad for a bunch of Yankees really.

Tales from the Grave!

Posted by Bunny On September - 7 - 2010

BELA LUGOSI LIVES!!  The iconic horror star is getting the four color treatment via “Tales from the Grave!”  We sat down with one of the crazed minds behind the return of “the Count!”

First off, tell us who you are?

I’m Kerry Gammill. I drew comic books for Marvel and DC during the
’80s and ’90s. Since then I’ve worked in movies and advertising doing
conceptual art and storyboards. I’ve always loved horror comics and
the classic horror movies of the ’30s and ’40s with stars like Bela
Lugosi, Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney, Jr. I decided to combine those
passions by getting back into comics with a new publishing company,
Monsterverse Entertainment.
